NewHolly Redevelopment Plan

NewHolly, in the Beacon Hill/Rainier Valley neighborhood, was originally known as Holly Park. It was a neighborhood of one- and two-story wood frame structures originally built for defense workers during World War II. From the early 1950s through the mid-1990s, it provided public housing for low-income families. In 1996, Seattle Housing began a major redevelopment of the neighborhood, transforming it into a community with a mix of low-income, moderate-income, market-rate rental and homes for sale.

NewHolly now blends into the surrounding neighborhood, ending the stigma often associated with very large public housing communities. All 871 units of low-income housing provided at Holly Park prior to the redevelopment have been replaced. Many of these are in NewHolly, while others have been created off-site. Relocation of all the original Holly Park residents was completed in April 2002. For a detailed report of the relocation process, click here.
