Yesler Terrace is SHA's oldest
housing community, built on 30 acres on the
southern slope of Seattle’s First Hill district
in 1939. It was the first racially integrated
housing project in the nation. Currently, Yesler
Terrace houses about 1,500
residents in 561 apartments.
The aging buildings have reached the end of
their useful life and are costing significant
time and money to maintain. Yesler Terrace is in
need of a full scale redevelopment to renew the
housing, address maintenance issues and to
improve resident health and safety.
