Mixed-income housing:
How to apply

The Seattle Housing Authority offers units at three mixed-income communities: High Point, NewHolly and Rainier Vista. Each community has several kinds of housing, including Low Income Public Housing units, market rate rentals and affordable "tax credit" units.

If you are interested in learning more about the kinds of housing offered at each community, please get in touch with each community's management office directly. Each office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For more information, visit the appropriate Web site:

1. Submit an application via mail or in-person

The Seattle Housing Authority accepts application forms in-person at the PorchLight Housing Center or via mail. You may also apply online. Our paper application materials are available in six languages.

To apply for the Low Income Public Housing units at High Point, NewHolly or Rainier Vista, apply for the Low Income Public Housing program on your application, and select one or two of these three as your preferred properties. (You may sign up for just two waiting lists.)

You can speak to PorchLight’s housing counselors for individualized application help.

2. Join the waiting list(s)

After submitting a pre-application, you will be added to the waiting list for Low Income Public Housing units at the community or communities you chose (up to two). The waiting time varies according to current market conditions and waiting list preference.

3. Submit a full application at your interview

When your name comes to the top of the waiting list, you will be contacted by mail and invited to call for an interview appointment. At the interview, you will meet with a staff member who will guide you through the full application process. Documentation will be collected at this time to determine whether you qualify for assistance.

4. Approval or denial of your application

If your application and documentation indicate that you qualify, you will receive conditional approval for assistance and begin waiting for an available unit. Approval is conditional until you lease a unit. If your application does not indicate that you qualify, you will receive conditional denial. In this case, you will be given an opportunity to provide additional information that shows you qualify for assistance. If your application is still denied, you will have one last opportunity to contest the denial by submitting an appeal.
