CollinsWoerman
selected to lead Yesler Terrace redevelopment efforts |

The Seattle design firm
CollinsWoerman has been selected
by Seattle Housing Authority to develop design
alternatives for the Yesler Terrace Redevelopment. The team
will be led by one of the firm's principals, Tom Hudson. The
goal of the planning effort will be to identify alternatives
that are compatible with the guiding principles developed in
2007 and adopted by the Housing Authority's Board of
Trustees in December. |

Yesler Terrace
Citizen Review Committee
comes back together June 10 |

The Citizen Review Committee
charged with advising Seattle Housing on the
redevelopment of Yesler Terrace will reconvene on June
10. The
CRC will take up the second phase of its work at 5 p.m.
at the Yesler Community Center. Germaine Covington, who
recently retired as director of Seattle's Office of
Civil Rights, will serve as chair. She replaces former
mayor Norman Rice in this position. Many of the original
members have remained on the committee, and have been
joined by six Yesler Terrace residents and additional
community representatives. |

High Point Commons
Park opening celebration scheduled for July 4 |

High
Point’s new park, The Commons – located at Lanham Pl. SW and
SW Graham St. – will open in early July. A community
barbeque and potluck from 5
pm-8 pm on July 4 will celebrate the opening.
Community members are invited to bring a favorite side dish
or dessert to contribute. Seattle
Housing Authority will provide the main course. There will
also be a kids’ talent show (ages 6-18), games, and
activities for all. Those interested in volunteering or
taking part in the talent show, can

Seattle Housing
recognized for design excellence by local architects'
organization |

At its annual awards dinner on May 31
the Seattle chapter of the American Institute of Architects
presented Seattle Housing with its
2008 Community Service Award.
The AIA honors committee lauded the Housing Authority for
its "extraordinary commitment to outstanding design as a
right, not a privilege." |

Roberta Sherwood
hired to support community building efforts |

Roberta Sherwood
joined Seattle Housing Authority's Community
Services division in April as Community Building
Coordinator. In that role, she will supervise Seattle
Housing's six-person community building team that
facilitates leadership activities by residents. Summing
up her approach to her new job, Sherwood says,
"I believe anyone can be a leader if they have the
desire and the necessary sense of responsibility." |
