Feasibility Study explores Rainier Vista
options
SEATTLE—April 28, 2003—In
a feasibility study commissioned by SHA, the consulting
firm Bay Area Economics (BAE) found that SHA's current
plan for redevelopment of the Rainier Vista site was the
most feasible of the options considered. SHA agreed to the
study as part of a settlement reached with project opponents
in December 2002. The study explored various
possibilities for replacing on site all of the 481
low-income units originally at Rainier Vista. The current
plan calls for replacing 410 units on site, with 71 units
replaced elsewhere. For details on the feasibility study, click

SHA Board reconsiders budget strategy
SEATTLE—April
22, 2003—The Seattle Housing Authority Board of
Commissioners passed a budget strategy resolution
at its April 21 meeting that calls for balancing the
housing authority's budget in the face of $3.4 million in
federal cutbacks, but does not specify where those cuts
will be made. Executive Director Harry Thomas explained
that as a result of concerns expressed over eliminating
live-in resident managers, the Commissioners have asked
staff to develop alternatives to the original plan.
"We want to work with our labor unions to revise the
proposed strategy," he said. Click
