Breathe Easy homes at High Point offer residents a healthy housing option

 

SEATTLE—January 6, 2007—Asthma is the sixth-ranking chronic condition in Washington state and the leading serious chronic illness of children in the U.S. There is also a disproportionately higher incidence of the disease among low-income families. Thanks to partnerships and grant funding, 35 low-income families are living in Breathe Easy homes designed to reduce the disease. Click here to find out more.

 

homeWorks ahead of construction schedule

 

SEATTLE—January 4, 2007—The homeWorks project has reason to celebrate. Even in advance of its February “first anniversary” nearly 70 percent of the construction work in Phase I of the three-phase, five-year  project has been completed. The first three buildings and design drawings for the second phase of the project were completed by the end of 2006. Click here to learn more.

 

Dean Barnes hired as Human Resources Director

 

SEATTLE—January 2, 2007—Dean Barnes was hired as SHA's Human Resources Director in late November. Barnes comes to SHA with a wealth of experience and is already making plans and setting goals for himself and his department. Click here for details.

 

Commissioner Al Winston, Jr. remembered

 

SEATTLE—January 2, 2007—The Seattle Housing Authority community mourns the passage of Al Winston, Jr., who served as a member of SHA's Board of Commissioners since September 1999. Mr. Winston died in December 2006. "Al Winston made immense contributions to SHA policy and programs for low-income people, and especially seniors," notes Executive Director Tom Tierney, "and he provided tremendous spirit to our work together." MTW Report highlights 2006 accomplishments

 

SEATTLE—January 2, 2007—One of SHA's notable accomplishments in 2006 was the opening of the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list and the lottery selection of 4,000 applicants to be on the list. This is just one of the highlights mentioned in the 2006 Moving To new Ways report, which documents the Housing Authority's progress toward its goals.
