Senior Housing Rent Structure Committee considers options

SEATTLE—March 26, 2003—Various options for new rent policies in the Seattle Senior Housing program are beginning to take shape with the assistance of a volunteer advisory committee. Othello Place chosen as NewHolly name

SEATTLE—March 20, 2003—To reflect the change occurring in this revitalized neighborhood, what was formerly known as "Holly Park Phase III" will now be referred to as Othello Place. The new name reflects the fact that this part of the neighborhood will have a distinct identity due to its proximity to MLK, Jr. Way and its future links with transit. Click here to learn more.

Deconstruction studied at High Point pilot project

SEATTLE—March 17, 2003—A closely-watched pilot project is exploring the feasibility of using "deconstruction" techniques for all or part of the High Point revitalization project. Destruction is the careful dismantling of buildings in order to re-use and recycle the building materials they contain. During the week of March 17, a duplex at High Point was demolished using these techniques, and the results were carefully documented. For pictures of the project, and more information, click here.

Layoffs planned in response to Federal cuts

SEATTLE—March 17, 2003—The Seattle Housing Authority has outlined a budget strategy for its 2004 fiscal year that will result in significant layoffs and reorganization. SHA must adjust its operations to account for a decrease in federal subsidy of $3.4 million. Click here for details of the proposed plan and information on a March 31 public hearing.
