Section 8 rent policy change
proposed - public hearing March 31
SEATTLE—March 13, 2003—The Seattle
Housing Authority is suggesting changes to its Section 8
rent policy, requiring a $50 minimum contribution toward
rent and utilities from each household. The program has no
minimum family contribution now. Under the new policy,
hardship exemptions would be available for people unable
to pay the minimum contribution. According to Section 8
director Kathy Roseth, "Having a minimum contribution
is a fair and reasonable way to keep the program strong
and serve as many people as possible." For details on
the proposed changes and the hearing, click

SEATTLE—March 12, 2004—Family
Pryde Homes has begun construction on eight new for-sale
homes at NewHolly, after buying the building lots from the
Seattle Housing Authority. Family Pryde is the first
company to begin work in this new phase of the program.
Rather that building the for-sale homes itself, SHA is
selling the lots to private builders who will build
according to strict design guidelines. To learn more about
this new program, click
