Mayor Nickels seeks new resident commissioner for SHA Board

SEATTLE—March 1, 2006—Mayor Greg Nickels is currently seeking a new resident commissioner for the Seattle Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. The new commissioner will replace Judy Fay, who is retiring from the Board after nine years of service. President's budget proposal cuts funds for public housing capital improvements

SEATTLE—March 3, 2006—President Bush released his draft budget in February, proposing to fund most housing programs at or below the same levels as last year, but cutting the Public Housing Capital Fund by 12 percent. These are the funds that allow housing authorities to make major repairs to public housing buildings. In early March, debate on the housing budget kicked off with Senate hearings, and Senator Patty Murray took a strong stand against the proposed cuts. Click here to learn more.
