Design Commission approves High Point
Plan
SEATTLE—November 30, 2002—The Seattle
Design Commission recently gave an enthusiastic
endorsement to the plans for the High Point redevelopment.
The commission praised the urban design
approach taken and the vision embodied in the plan. They
especially appreciated the reintroduction of the historic street pattern and
the respect shown in the plan
for the existing topography. Their approval sets the stage for
consideration by the Seattle City Council of the contract
rezone associated with the project. This is expected to
take place early in 2003. Read more about their

preferences

to 6:30 p.m. at the agency's PorchLight Housing Center. For

New acquisitions add to affordable
housing stock
SEATTLE—November
19, 2002—SHA's inventory of affordable housing is
growing by 37 units, all of them large family units in Seattle's Central
District. In addition to preserving this affordable housing, the
acquisition also helps to fulfill replacement housing goals for Holly Park,
Lake City Village and Yesler Terrace. The units will be financed
with bonds issued by the housing authority. Some units
will also receive on-going subsidy through the use of
Housing Choice vouchers assigned to specific units. For

programs through grant awards

grants that total over $1 million. They will fund a range
of services, including job placement, case managers in SHA
high rises and home ownership assistance. For details on
