SEATTLE—August 15, 2006—On September 16-17 and 23-24, West
Seattle’s High Point neighborhood will welcome Seattle’s Green
Living EXPO. Located at 32nd Ave. SW and Raymond Street in West
Seattle, the two weekend event will be free and open to the public
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the EXPO, visitors will be able to tour
the neighborhood with some of the experts who developed the
innovative community design and features such as the natural
drainage system. A selection of idea homes that showcase
environmentally-friendly features will be open for tours. The
EXPO
will also include free seminars, exhibits, organic food and much
more.
High Point is the United States' first mixed-income, healthy neighborhood, combining energy-efficient homes with
the largest urban, natural drainage system in the country. It has
received both local and national attention for its approach to
building, including the Pacific Coast Builders Conference’s Gold
Nugget Award in 2004 for “Best Plans on the Boards.”
More recently, the American Institute of
Architects honored the project with a coveted “Show You’re Green”
award – one of only eight communities in the country to be honored
for sustainable innovations and affordability. Also, High Point is
featured in two PBS documentaries, Edens Lost and Found, and
Hidden Epidemic. In both, High Point was held up as a model
for how to build a community “right.”
