Mayor Nickels seeks resident commissioner for SHA board
Commissioner Judy Fay retires after 9 years
SEATTLE—March 1, 2006—Mayor Greg Nickels is currently accepting
applications from residents who live in SHA properties to join SHA's
Board of Commissioners. The new resident commissioner will replace
High Point resident Judy Fay, who has diligently served on the
commission for nine years. She has played an important role in the
future of High Point as she has worked on behalf of residents
throughout the HOPE VI redevelopment of this community.
The Board of
Commissioners is responsible for approving SHA's annual budget, and
for setting the specific policies that guide the Seattle Housing
Authority's operation.
Claudia Arana, who
coordinates appointments to boards and commissions for the Mayor’s
Office, is assisting with the search for a new resident
commissioner. Commissioners on the seven-member board are appointed
by the Mayor and confirmed by the Seattle City Council.
This volunteer position with the Seattle Housing
Authority requires an individual who is willing to commit 10 to 12
hours per month in preparing for and attending meetings. The Board
of Commissioners meets monthly on the third Monday of the month
beginning at 5 p.m. Meetings usually last up to two hours. The
meeting agenda and background materials for each meeting are mailed
to each Commissioner during the prior week. In addition to regular
board meetings, Commissioners are expected to attend public hearings
and occasional briefings.
Mayor Nickels is seeking a person who has a
demonstrated interest in housing issues in Seattle and is willing to
commit the necessary time and effort, and can serve as an effective
liaison between the Housing Authority and the broader resident
community.
For an application packet, please contact
Claudia Arana at the City of Seattle at 206-615-0958 or
Claudia.Arana@seattle.gov.
Applications may also be downloaded from either the City of Seattle
Web site or the Seattle Housing Authority Web site:
The closing date for accepting application
materials is Thursday, March 30.
