"Zines" showcase communities' character

SEATTLE—February 22, 2006—The neighborhoods at Othello Station, High Point and Rainier Vista, and their surrounding communities, are showcased in three new community zines - created by Seattle Housing Authority and its consultant Fusionpartners. The zines showcase the neighborhoods' unique characteristics, while attracting homebuyers to the developments' homes for sale.

They also give prospective homebuyers the opportunity to get better acquainted with the neighborhoods - including their dynamics and some of the people who call Othello Station, High Point, Rainier Vista and their surrounding communities home.

The three different zines, one each for Othello Station, High Point and Rainier Vista, are about 50 pages long and are full of graphics and upbeat, lively stories. The stories tell about the people who live in the communities, the best places to eat, the closest parks and art galleries and information about the areas' merchants and their businesses.

All of the zines have been distributed around their respective neighborhoods in local stores and businesses, where they are available free of charge. They are also available in the redevelopment sites in bright yellow newspaper boxes.

The zines have been well-received by the communities and prospective residents. This month, the Othello Station zine won a Totem Award for excellence in public relations from the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
