Housing Katrina Evacuees

Rental assistance for some Katrina evacuees extended through August

SEATTLE—May 31, 2006—Over the past several months, FEMA has notified many Katrina evacuees that they are no longer eligible for housing assistance. To help these hurricane victims make the transition to independence, Seattle Housing Authority has offered to supplement the assistance provided from Washington State for some 49 evacuees listed by FEMA as ineligible. FEMA Transitioning Katrina evacuees to new housing programs - SHA assisting transition

SEATTLE—April 10, 2006—SHA has served as a coordinator and provider of housing services to more than 160 Katrina evacuees since shortly after the hurricane ravaged New Orleans last fall. Now FEMA is transitioning some evacuees to a program where their housing costs will be paid directly by FEMA. Other evacuees are being informed that they do not qualify for continued assistance.
