Harry Thomas Community Center scheduled
to open in September
SEATTLE—August
8, 2007—On Sept. 5 from 5 - 7 pm
the Harry Thomas Community Center at Lee
House will open its doors for a
community open house. The renovation of
the original Lee House is currently
drawing to a close as volunteer
contractors and staff apply the
finishing touches to this community
remodel project. Renamed in honor of
former SHA Executive Director Harry
Thomas, the Lee House was built in the
early 1900s, long before the original
Holly Park housing was built. The newly
remodeled center will be available for
meetings and community events. The
second floor will serve as office space
for Neighborhood House staff. For more
details,

Holly Park replacement housing completed
SEATTLE—May
23, 2007—Replacing
more than 800 units of low-income

part of the revitalization of the former
Holly Park housing project. As of the
beginning of May, all of the 871
low-income housing units originally
located at Holly Park have been replaced
and made available at NewHolly and
throughout the city to individuals and
families earning below 30 percent of
area median income. For more

SEATTLE—January
15, 2003—When
the Seattle Housing Authority proposed including for-sale
homes in its NewHolly development, many were skeptical of
the prospects for success. Therefore, SHA assumed the
risks of building the new houses, using the profits from
sales to build additional low-income housing. Once all 148
homes in Phase I sold successfully to rave reviews, the
market value of the project was firmly established. Now
the housing authority will sell the lots to private
homebuilders and leave this portion of the development to
experienced experts. But SHA will do this only with
caveats and controls to make sure that design quality and
the public interest is protected. To read more about the new
land sales,

new P-Patch at NewHolly. The governor pitched in to carry
and place pieces of recycled pavement for new retaining
walls at the "Power Garden" near Phase II
townhouses. For pictures of the work party and
