Section 8 policy change

Families that are eligible for TANF but have not applied may pay higher rent

The Board approved a new income calculation that will apply to families that appear to be eligible for TANF, but report income below the TANF grant amount. However, SHA has not yet planned an effective date for this policy.

If the family does not provide SHA with documentation that they are not eligible for TANF, SHA will calculate their income as if they were receiving the standard grant amount for the family size.

When this policy becomes effective, it will only apply to households with children that have little or no income, and have not applied for TANF.

When will the change affect households?

At this time, SHA has not determined an effective date for this policy. Until further notice, families do not have to provide documentation of TANF ineligibility.
