Seattle Senior Housing Program (SSHP)
|
The Seattle Senior Housing Program,
which was established
by a bond issue passed by Seattle voters in 1981, provides housing for people over the age of 62 and
for a small
number of disabled adults. SSHP's 23 attractive and thoughtfully designed
buildings are
located in such popular neighborhoods as Green Lake, West
Seattle, Queen Anne and Magnolia. Most buildings are located
on quiet residential streets. Secured entries
ensure privacy and safety. | Pictured:

Small buildings, ideal for independent living
SSHP buildings feature elevators and
comfortable, carpeted apartments for one- or two-person households.
Community rooms permit residents to engage in
social activities and stay active. On any given
afternoon, a visitor might find residents playing cards,
participating in a quilting club or enjoying an exercise class.
Seattle Senior Housing Program buildings
This is a list of SSHP buildings as
of April 2007. Buildings that permit a resident to have
a cat are marked with an asterisk (*). Dogs are not
permitted in any of these buildings.
Affordable rents
Unlike many public housing programs, SSHP does not receive operating funds from
the federal government. For that reason, rent payments from
SSHP residents must be set at a level that allows SHA to pay
all of the program’s operating costs.
Seattle Senior Housing Program rents
New residents will be charged one of
four rent levels depending on income. This table sets
out those rent levels for one-person and two-person
households.

Every October 1, income is reviewed and rent is adjusted
accordingly. Most SSHP units have one bedroom, but
applicants may request a two-bedroom unit. (Rents for
two-bedroom units are $25 to $100 higher than one-bedroom
units.)
