The Seattle Senior Housing Program
Review Committee

Established 1993 to monitor SSHP rent policy

In September 2003, the SHA Board of Commissioners created a new Review Committee for the Seattle Senior Housing Program. The committee's job is to monitor SSHP's financial performance and recommend any needed policy changes to the Board of Commissioners. Having an on-going review committee helps SHA continue to run a strong program that meets community expectations.

The Review Committee meets multiple times throughout each year and participates in developing the annual budget. Committee members review financial performance and make recommendations to ensure that the program is bringing in enough revenue to meet its expenses, as well as continuing to serve households with the desired mix of incomes.

The need for such a committee was first identified by the SSHP Rent Structure Advisory Committee in its recommendations for a new rent policy, adopted by the Board in June 2003. (For a related story on the rent policy, click here.)

Because the Rent Structure Advisory Committee process had worked well, the Review Committee membership is similarly made up of people representing various constituencies that have an interest in SSHP. The Committee comprises the following 11 people:

·         Two SSHP residents: Bob Fuller and Lowell "Wally" Walton

·         Two representatives of the City of Seattle: Bill Rumpf, Office of Housing, and Traci Ratzliff, City Council staff

·         Two low-income housing practitioners or industry experts: Nora Gibson, ElderHealth Northwest, and Sue Yuzer, Lutheran Alliance to Create Housing

·         Two other knowledgeable stakeholders, most likely from low-income advocate groups: John Fox, Displacement Coalition, and Margaret Casey, senior advocate

·         One at-large member who may also represent one of the constituent groups: Maiko Winkler-Chin, Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation Development Authority

·         The SSHP Senior Property Manager, Judith Anderson

·         The SHA Executive Director or designee: Al Levine, Deputy Executive Director

Committee members serve three-year terms.
