Yesler Terrace meetings seek suggestions on draft principles for redevelopment

 

SEATTLE—August 9, 2007—The Yesler Terrace Citizen Review Committee has published a set of guiding principles and is seeking comments and suggestions on the draft. Open houses are scheduled for 7 pm on August 13 at Langston Hughes Performance Art Center and 5 pm on August 15 at the Yesler Community Center. Harry Thomas Community Center scheduled to open in September

 

SEATTLE—August 8, 2007—On Sept. 5 from 5 - 7 pm the Harry Thomas Community Center at Lee House will open its doors for a community open house. The renovation of the original Lee House is currently drawing to a close as volunteer contractors and staff apply the finishing touches to this community remodel project. Renamed in honor of former SHA Executive Director Harry Thomas, the Lee House was built in the early 1900s, long before the original Holly Park housing was built. The newly remodeled center will be available for meetings and community events. The second floor will serve as office space for Neighborhood House staff. For more details, click here.

 

New commissioners named to SHA board

 

SEATTLE—August 8, 2007—Nora Gibson and Juan Martinez have been appointed to three year terms on the Seattle Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Both appointments were confirmed unanimously by the City Council's Housing, Human Services and Health Committee. The full City Council will take up the confirmation on Monday, August 13. Gibson and Martinez replace Bettylou Valentine and Jennifer Potter who have both served two terms on the Commission. For more information, click here.

 

Phase II of High Point moves forward

 

SEATTLE—August 7, 2007—Absher Construction has begun building 256 units of rental housing for Phase II of High Point. Work on  new streets and other infrastructure by Tri-State construction is 60 percent complete. The first units of new rental housing will be ready for occupancy in six months, with completion of the entire project expected by the end of the decade. Click here, for more details.
