WASHINGTON, D.C.—July 17, 2002—SHA
Executive Director Harry Thomas participated for the past
year at the request of Congress on the Commission on
Affordable Housing and Health Facility Needs for Seniors
in the 21st Century (the Seniors Commission). The
commission presented its preliminary findings to a Senate
committee on June 27. Thomas was one of six out of the 14
Commissioners who signed on to a minority report urging
Congress to do even more now to avert a crisis as the
population of older Americans rapidly expands in the next
