Tri-Court re-opens with apartments in a smoke-free
environment
SEATTLE—July 17, 2003—As renovation of the first of
three residential apartment buildings at Tri-Court is
completed, residents are moving back in to clean,
smoke-free apartments that will support their efforts to
stay healthy in spite of respiratory ailments. The
renovation is a result of a policy passed in 2001 by the
SHA Board of Commissioners, designating Tri-Court as a
smoke-free environment in order to better meet the needs
of residents with respiratory problems. Click here

U.S. House of Representatives considering HUD
appropriations for FY2004
SEATTLE—July 17, 2003—The House Appropriations
Sub-Committee marked up the VA-HUD Appropriations bill on
July 15, keeping subsidy for low-income housing at about
the same levels as last year. The bill is expected to go
to the full House Appropriations Committee soon. In
response to the Bush administration's recommendations for
the budget, the Center on Budget Priorities has released a report
suggesting that the level of funding needed for existing
Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) has been dramatically
underestimated. The Center
estimated that as many as 184,000 households could lose
their vouchers if their predicted shortfall is accurate.
This could affect as many as 500 households in Seattle. To
