Walsh Construction lauded for minority hiring

SEATTLE—October 12, 2004—The Urban League and the Contractors Development Competitiveness Center have recognized the efforts of Walsh Construction Company in increasing opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses. Walsh received the 2004 CDCC Contractor’s Award in October. According to Walsh General Manager Tom Mathews, the company has awarded more than $7 million in contracts to minority and women-owned businesses at Rainier Vista and NewHolly. City, SHA agree on High Point drainage system

SEATTLE—October 14, 2004—The City Council recently passed a Memorandum of Agreement that will bring into reality the natural drainage system that is central to the High Point redevelopment. The City will provide $2.7 million toward construction of the system that will allow this densely developed urban area to perform environmentally as if it were a mountain meadow. $250,000 grant will enhance technology network at Rainier Vista

SEATTLE—October 22, 2004—Families at Rainier Vista will experience greater access to technology thanks to a $250,000 grant from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant was awarded to the Seattle Housing Authority which will contract with Neighborhood House and the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club. For details on the grant, click here

Partnerships to provide housing to low-income families, elderly and disabled

SEATTLE—October 25, 2004—By partnering with other organizations in the project-based Housing Choice Vouchers program, Seattle Housing is able to provide housing in supportive environments for some of Seattle's poorest and most vulnerable residents. The program subsidizes units in Seattle Housing-owned and privately-owned properties throughout Seattle, helping to cover the programs' operating expenses and lowering rents. Currently, 981 units in the program are leased and approximately 1,228 vouchers are committed to the program. Click here for details.
