the Green Living Expo

SEATTLE—February 20, 2007—The High Point redevelopment project in West Seattle has been selected as one of six finalists for the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence. This national award, founded in 1987 by architect Simeon Bruner, is dedicated to discovering and celebrating urban places that are distinguished by quality design, and by their social, economic, and contextual contributions to the urban environment.

High Point’s selection means that the community will receive at least a Silver Medal and $10,000, which will be used for playground equipment. The selection committee will visit all of the finalist before selecting the Gold Medal winner in May. The committee visited High Point for several days beginning on President’s Day Weekend. In addition to tours of the site they met with planners, architects and residents.

George Nemeth, housing developer, was responsible for preparing SHA's application for the award. According to Nemeth, “The Rudy Bruner Award is a high-profile award and this selection represents great recognition for the project and SHA.”

Nemeth and the High Point team had to fill out a 35-page application that included questions such as, “Describe the underlying values of the project.” SHA’s answer: “Engage the community, respect nature at every stage of the development process and create a healthy living environment for many generations of residents.”

The development has already received a variety of prestigious awards and is proud to add the Rudy Bruner Award to the list. See the complete awards list on SHA's Web site Newsroom.
