Is homelessness one of those problems that we simply have to accept? Is it inevitable that our urban streets will be populated by beggars seeking spare change?  Or, are there steps that we can take to end homelessness?

CityClub is presenting this forum in memory of former CityClub board member, Mel Jackson, who passed away unexpectedly in June 2002.  Homelessness is one of the causes Mel cared about deeply.  He believed that every homeless person could be helped.

The forum will address questions such as: Who are the homeless?  How big is the problem here?  How do new local partnerships relate to President Bush’s stated national priority of ending chronic homelessness in ten years?  Our panel of business people and service providers are actively involved in the work being undertaken in our region.

What’s been your experience with homelessness or exposure to the homeless?  Whether you steel yourself against intrusive requests from homeless people you pass on the street or you’re a softie who always has spare change, you’ll find provocative answers to these questions and more at this Mel Jackson Memorial Forum.
