New Yesler Community Center provides resources

Community celebrates the center's grand opening

 

SEATTLE—February 12, 2005—Mayor Greg Nickels joined the community to mark the opening of the new Yesler Community Center. The grand opening event included facility tours, cultural performances, arts and crafts activities, class demonstrations, and international food. 

The Seattle Parks and Recreation’s new center greatly enhances the recreation and education resources available to the Yesler neighborhood. It features a computer lab, fitness room, multi-purpose room and a full size recreational gym.

Many of the activities at the center are free or very affordable. Some of these include after-school programs for kids and teens, morning gym time for preschoolers, and a variety of classes and forums for seniors. The center’s learning center offers a wide range of educational classes, including tutoring, multi-media for teens, and computer basics.
