conversation on Monday, Oct. 20 with Steve Preston,
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development. The event will focus on "The Housing
Crisis: What's Next for Puget Sound?" The forum will
take place at Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave. in Seattle

Jefferson
Terrace considered as supportive housing model
SEATTLE—October 13, 2008—Seattle
Housing staff are working with service providers and
funders to evaluate
the possibility of re-programming Jefferson Terrace,
its largest public housing building, to serve the needs
of people exiting homelessness. Under the "housing
first" model, once new residents are housed, they would
receive an array of supportive services to help them
overcome the challenges that keep them from being housed
successfully in SHA’s traditional public housing.
New rental
housing opens in second phase of High Point
SEATTLE—October 13, 2008—New
rental units have been steadily coming on line all
summer in the
second phase of the award-winning High Point
redevelopment in West Seattle. After the first ten
townhomes were turned over in June, the pace has picked
up steadily. A total of 72 new townhomes have been added
so far, and 66 more will come on line next month.
Completed rental units will total 256 by April.
Bank of America,
KaBOOM! join community volunteers to build NewHolly
playground
SEATTLE—October 10, 2008—More
than 200 volunteers from Bank of America and the
NewHolly community, organizers from KaBOOM! and
employees of the Seattle Housing Authority will come
together on Friday, Oct. 24 to
build a new, safe playground
at Central Park at NewHolly. The new
playgrounds' design is based on drawings provided by
children who attended a Design Day event in August.
Seattle Housing
receives $10.4 million to build new housing in Lake City
SEATTLE—September 23, 2008—Vacant
land south of Lake City House on 33rd Ave. NE will be
the site of
103 new units of housing
that will serve a mix of low-income people,
first-time homebuyers and market-rate homeowners. A
$10.4 million HOPE VI grant from the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development will provide seed money
for the project. Construction will begin in 2010.
