Experience the big picture at High Point
SEATTLE—September 27, 2007—Seattle Housing Authority invites neighbors to a community celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to mark High Point's final phase of new home construction.
The public will have the opportunity at the event to see, for the first time, the very large scale and layout of the complete High Point neighborhood redevelopment as they enjoy music and food. The celebration begins at 4:30 pm just north of the intersection of 31st Avenue SW and SW Myrtle Street in West Seattle.
Construction progress has opened up vistas to all of the new High Point as the site has been cleared of all old housing units and new streets have been completed. “High Point residents have much to be proud of in their neighborhood,” said Tom Phillips, redevelopment manager. “We’ve accomplished a lot together over the past six years to realize the dream of creating a diverse, healthy and vital community.”
So far, work to revitalize this neighborhood has included building a new medical and dental clinic, opening a neighborhood library, building new streets to connect High Point with the surrounding neighborhood, implementing a sustainable natural drainage system, constructing new senior housing, and completing over 680 for-sale and rental homes.
The second and final phase is now underway to build over 1,000 new homes by eight different builders. Currently planned are 160 residences for seniors, 12 townhomes by Habitat for Humanity, 250 rental homes, 174 condominium flats, and numerous single-family homes and townhomes for sale to buyers within a range of incomes. A new 3.5-acre park, known as the Commons, is also under construction. Redevelopment will be complete by 2010.
