Judith G. Fay Park dedicated at High Point
SEATTLE—June 22, 2007—In recognition of ten years of service on the Seattle Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, a new park in the High Point neighborhood is being named to honor Judith G. Fay.
"Judy Fay made a huge contribution to positive changes at High Point," noted SHA's Executive Director Tom Tierney. "She worked tirelessly to help High Point residents understand the complexities of the redevelopment of their community. At the same time, she represented their interests very effectively with SHA staff and her fellow commissioners. We are really pleased to see this new park named for her."
The park will be dedicated in her honor on Monday, June 25 at 5 p.m. The new park is located at the corner of SW Raymond Street and 32nd Ave. SW. The dedication ceremonies will also provide an opportunity for the Rudy Bruner Foundation to present its Award of Urban Excellence. High Point was one of six projects recognized by this foundation in 2007.
The celebration on June 25 will provide an opportunity for High Point neighbors and friends to get together over light refreshments and enjoy the rewards of the work to create this new community.
Judith Fay was appointed to the Seattle Housing board by Mayor Norm Rice in 1996, where she represented the interests of residents of High Point and all SHA communities until her retirement in May of 2006. The seven-member Board of Commissioners oversees the operations and management of the Housing Authority. Members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
Fay was a resident of SHA’s High Point Community for more than 25 years. She served as president of the High Point Resident Initiative Association and on the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. She also served as the Public Policy Chair of the National Institute of Senior Housing, a delegate council of the National Council on Aging.
During her time as a commissioner, Judy Fay was also active in several volunteer positions to promote neighborhood safety and unity. She chaired the Southwest District Council and the Community Policing Action Council, served as secretary of the South Precinct Advisory Council and was a member of the Southwest Precinct Advisory Council. She has held all the officer positions for the High Point Community Council and was active with the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Delridge District Council.
