Free Homework Help starts on Sept. 21 at Seattle Public Library Branches

This fall, your children can get free help with their studies at eight Seattle Public Library neighborhood branches. 

Starting the week of Sept. 21, students from kindergarten through 12th grade can attend after-school Homework Help sessions at the Broadview, Columbia, Douglass-Truth, High Point, Lake City, NewHolly, Northgate, and Rainier Beach branches.  

At Homework Help sessions, volunteer tutors can help students with any subject, including reading, writing, math, and even college essays. You don’t need a library card to attend, and snacks are provided. 

If your student doesn’t have homework, no problem! Tutors can read with students, play learning games, and help improve students’ study skills.

Technology upgrade at The Seattle Public Library from Sept. 6 to Sept. 15 will affect some services

As recently announced, The Seattle Public Library is upgrading a major IT system starting on Sept. 6. Several of our services will be offline from 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 until Wednesday, Sept. 16.  

All of our libraries will be open, and you can still use computers and printers, check out books with staff assistance, and attend programs like English Conversation Circle and story times. But you will not be able to access your account or place holds on physical materials.

Here are a couple of simple steps you can take to prepare: 

The Library is closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, but beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 8, please bring your physical or digital library card, or a screenshot or photo of the card’s barcode and number, to borrow physical items at any of our locations.  
 

You can also download and log into the Library’s the SPL mobile app, which will allow you to add a digital library card to your mobile wallet. It’s a good backup if you don’t have your physical library card with you. 

If you use Libby to check out e-books, make sure you log in before Sept. 6 so you can continue to use it.
