Mamba Day 2026 brought both heat and heart, filling the High Point gym on Aug. 22 with more than forty excited youth, a record‑breaking number of parents lining the bleachers, and teams from neighboring communities who came ready to compete and connect. The energy was high from the moment the doors opened, and the day quickly became one of our most memorable tournaments yet.

Youth showed incredible sportsmanship and emotional maturity throughout the event. Even when competition intensified, players stayed composed, supported one another, and embodied the respectful spirit we work hard to build all year. One standout moment came from a middle school team coached by Mr. Erwin. Despite being younger and smaller than many of their opponents, they arrived early, played with heart, and demonstrated teamwork that inspired everyone watching. Their dedication paid off when they took home the championship for their age group.

Families and community members added to the excitement, cheering from the sidelines and celebrating every big play. Their presence made the gym feel electric and reminded us how powerful community support can be.

While planning came with a few curveballs, SHA staff adapted quickly and ensured every young person had a chance to participate. The result was a smooth, joyful event that highlighted the best of youth programming.

Mamba Day is proudly led by the Seattle Housing Authority’s Education and Youth Development Team, with Mr. Todd carrying the torch each year and Mr. Jaycee recognized as the original architect of the tournament’s vision. Thank you to Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Marvin Thomas Memorial Fund, and U Power for supporting this event and helping it grow into a celebration the community looks forward to every year.
