Employee Assistance Program

Seattle Housing Authority offers you and your family the services of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Wellspring Family Services.  An Employee Assistance Program provides short-term, confidential counseling for you and your family at no out-of-pocket expense to you.  You may use EAP as soon as you are hired as a regular SHA employee.  Learn more about EAP.

Wellness newsletters

Seattle Housing Authority publishes a monthly newsletter to help you take charge of your health with information and resources on important topics such as heart disease, understanding and recovering from back pain, healthy relationships, and cancer prevention. We hope these tips on good nutrition, exercise, preventive care, and managing chronic disease give you the necessary tools to take better care of yourself and your family.

The newsletter also includes suggestions on how to use your benefits effectively, saving you and your family money as you take good care of your health, safety, and well-being.

Health Risk Assessment

Ready to work on a healthier lifestyle? Complete a confidential health risk assessment and receive a personalized action plan. The assessment is available to employees and their family members age 18 and over with City medical benefits.

Aetna members: Log into your account at to access "Simple Steps to a Healthier Life". Take the online health assessment to determine your health risks. Receive a health report and personalized action plan plus the support of ten online programs.

Kaiser Permanente members: Log into your account at and select "Health Profile" to complete. Your report assesses how you're managing your health, and suggests actions to lower your risk for certain diseases and conditions. Free lifestyle coaching is included for those that trigger a risk for stress, tobacco, nutrition, and physical activity.

Personal Health Record

You and your adult family members covered on a City medical plan can access a secure, personal electronic health record.  Components include a detailed health history, integrated information, and personalized messages and alerts.  Once you activate your personal health record, your claims data will be added.

  1. Set up your personal health record:
  1. Add prior medical procedures and non-claim health information:  enter your health history, family health history, non-prescription drugs and vitamins.
  2. Bring or email your health summary to your provider so they have a complete record of your health.

24-Hour Nurse Consultation

Have a condition or illness question?  Call a nurse any time.  Employees and covered adult family members with City medical coverage have access to nurse consultation by phone.

Preventative care

Preventative care is available through most City of Seattle medical plans, subject to applicable copays and co-insurances.  Services may include flu shots, immunizations, mammograms, routine physical exams, well woman care, colon cancer screenings, and well baby care.  Contact your health care provider to make a preventative care appointment.

Disease Management

Aetna Health Connections is a disease management program aimed at helping individuals with chronic conditions.  The program addresses 37 common chronic diseases and conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, low back pain, obesity, migraines, and asthma.  Addtionally, Aetna Health Connections nurses and clinicians can provide support if an individual suffers from more than one condition.  See the chart below for a list of the supported diseases and conditions.

Indviduals may be identified for Health Connections participation through their physician or self-referral.  Requests may be submitted through the Aetna Navigator website at , Aetna patient management staff, or by submitting medical or pharmacy claims data.  You also may enroll by calling 1.866.269.4500.  Supported diseases and conditions in the Health Connections program are listed below:
