This month, The Voice is featuring artwork by SHA resident artist River. Titled "The Lines of Life Series (On the PCT My Slice of Heaven on Earth)," the drawing was inspired by memories of a weeklong backpacking trip through a meadow filled with wildflowers and berry bushes, with Mount Rainier visible in the distance.
River created the piece using colorful, branching "swiggle" lines. An art style they developed years ago that gradually evolved into detailed landscapes. The artwork took several days to complete and reflects a place that continues to bring a sense of peace.
"The flower patches and berry bushes are unique to each other but woven like a quilt together like the peace of many nationalities, races, creeds and gender identities, all beautiful in bloom living in harmony beside one another," said River.
