By The Seattle Public Library
Did you know that your children can get free help with their studies at nine Seattle Public Library neighborhood branches?
Starting the week of Oct. 6, students from kindergarten through 12th grade can attend after-school Homework Help sessions at the Broadview, Columbia, Douglass-Truth, High Point, Lake City, NewHolly, Northgate, Rainier Beach and South Park branches.
At Homework Help sessions, volunteer tutors can help students with subjects, including reading, writing, math and college essays. You don’t need a library card to attend, and snacks are provided. If your student doesn’t have homework, that’s fine, too. Tutors can read with students, play learning games, and help improve students’ study skills.
Check spl.org/homeworkhelp for this year’s schedule and locations.
This year, the Broadview, Columbia, Lake City and Northgate branches will offer sessions that are designed for teens.
If your student prefers to work with tutors online, or can’t make it to the Library’s Homework Help, they can use the library’s online tutoring service, tutor.com. Tutor.com offers free one-on-one help with any subject seven days a week in three languages (spl.org/virtualtutoring).
High school students can also get help with essays, ACT/SAT prep and applying for financial aid.
You do need a library card to access tutor.com. Apply at spl.org/Card or at any library branch. Seattle Public Schools students can also use their student ID as a digital library card through the Library Link program.)
The Library offers dozens of other resources and services for students at spl.org/StudentSuccess.
