Volunteers power SHA Computer Labs

The Seattle Housing Authority offers technology training, technical support and on-site computer labs, where residents have free access to the internet, devices and digital skills training to gain the knowledge and confidence to use the resources.

From learning how to use email or apply for jobs online, to connecting with family and friends, the computer labs offer a space where residents can build essential skills to use technology for everyday tasks.

Computer Labs are located at eight SHA properties. The STAR Center provides access to specialized training and technology for tenants with disabilities, and the Westwood Heights Computer Center is designed as a senior-friendly computer lab. Thanks to computer lab volunteers like Michael, who shares his self-taught digital skills, residents are getting the support they need to use devices and safely today's technology-driven environment.

“What’s really rewarding about volunteering in the lab is helping people solve technical problems and accomplish things they really need or want to do,” Michael said.

Volunteers are the heart of the SHA's computer lab program. They greet residents, maintain the lab and help residents build digital confidence. Residents interested in sharing their digital skills and supporting their community can make a big impact by volunteering at a computer lab.
