SHA slated to use 100 percent of its Emergency Housing Vouchers by year’s end

The Seattle Housing Authority expects that by the end of 2022 it will have used all 498 of the Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) it received to place mostly formerly homeless people in stable, secure homes. The EHV program was part of the American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress in 2021. Locally, SHA partnered with the King County Regional Homeless Authority (KCRHA) and about 100 community based nonprofits. The program was designed to assist individuals and families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability. SHA hired additional case managers to provide special housing search assistance, financial help with deposits and other costs, training for partners and landlords, and other support to increase the success of EHV households in leasing homes.
