SHA has developed a CodeRED Tenant Alert System that will enable SHA to rapidly text, email and call select groups or all residents and participants with urgent and emergency information. This could range from notifying residents of an SHA building about an elevator outage to messages alerting entire communities about a life-threatening situation. The program is for urgent and emergency communications only, not for routine or general business communications from SHA. SHA has successfully piloted a version with employees and is pleased to be extending it to residents and voucher participants.
CodeRED is a vital communications tool for those hopefully rare times when SHA needs to reach tenants quickly about disruptions, or worse a serious safety or life-threatening incident.
For you to be served by this emergency notification system, SHA will need to have your email address and mobile phone number in addition to your other contact information. You can update your information using Contact Us on SHA’s website or by providing it to your normal SHA contact. If tenants let SHA know their preferred language, the system can translate messages. Currently the number of languages is limited but a planned upgrade to the system technology will soon expand to approximately 100 languages.
On January 10, SHA sent a welcome test message to tenants that read “This is a test message to welcome SHA residents and voucher participants to the new Seattle Housing Authority CodeRED Tenant Alert System. In the future, this system will only be used to send you important information in the event of a known urgent or emergency situation at or near where you live. It will not be used for routine SHA communication. You can find more about this new system on SHA’s website at seattlehousing.org. Thank you.” If you received it, there is no need to respond. It means you are all set to receive SHA notification through the system should an urgent or emergency situation arise. If you did not receive the test message, please make sure SHA has your current mobile phone number and email address.
