Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims begins on March 11 and ends on April 10. Those observing the holy month will be fasting and participating in additional religious practices during this time. This includes refraining from food and water from before sunrise to after sunset, late-night and community prayers, more charity and good deeds and a heightened emphasis on patience and virtue.
Around 50 to 60 employees at the Seattle Housing Authority self-identify as Muslims, and nearly 97% belong to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) / under-represented racial/heritage groups, while around 44% are migrants. SHA is extending various forms of support to its Muslim employees to enable them to observe the 16-hour fasting and other practices during Ramadan.
SHA wishes staff and Muslim residents Ramadan Mubarak (Happy Ramadan)!
