Board seeks input on qualities for new executive director
SEATTLE—March 9, 2012—Applications for the position of Executive Director of the Seattle Housing Authority are due by the close of business today, March 9.
Before candidate interviews take place later this month, however, the Seattle Housing Authority's seven-member Board of Commissioners is seeking input from community members regarding the qualities they should be looking for in a new executive director. Tom Tierney, the agency's current executive director has announced his retirement this August.
The Board held a community forum earlier this week; input from that meeting is reflected in the draft Summary of Key Qualities for the new Executive Director. Prior to interviewing candidates, Commissioners have extended their outreach efforts to provide additional opportunities for stakeholders to respond.
Suggestions of additional qualities to seek in candidats may be offered either by emailing HR Director Dean Barnes or by phoning him at 206-615-3322. The deadline for comments and suggestions is March 19.
The Board of Commissioners is responsible for hiring and overseeing the work of the agency's executive director. The Commission plans to advertise the opening in Seattle and Washington State, and expects to garner interest in the position from across the country.
A committee of three board members, chaired by Nora Gibson, will oversee the search. Commissioners Juan Martinez and Kollin Min are also committee members.
Screening of applicants will take place during March, with interviews anticipated in mid-March. The interview panel will include Commissioners along with several members of the community.
The Board expects to identify a final candidate in late March, with employment commencing in July. Salary is negotiable, depending on experience.
