It's wildfire season. Are you prepared?

While wildfires have not impacted Seattle just yet, everyone should be prepared for smoke impacts from western wildfires this summer.

Before Smoke Arrives:

  • Talk to your doctor about your risk, especially if you or someone in your family has a health condition such as asthma, heart disease, or diabetes
  • Keep your indoor air cleaner by not smoking inside and by ventilating well when cooking
  • Invest in an air purifying or cleaning device, such as a simple and low-cost fan with a filter
  • Sign up to receive emergency alerts at alert.seattle.gov

When Smoke Arrives:

  • Check local air quality reports and listen to news or health warnings for your community.
  • Avoid being outdoors if smoke is in the air.
  • Stay indoors and keep indoor air as clean as possible. Keep doors and windows closed.
  • Wear your face covering when outdoors, preferably N95, N100, or KN95 masks. Learn more about masks and smoke.
  • Use an air cleaner or air purifier to reduce indoor air pollution. Do not use an air cleaner that produces ozone. Learn how to make a clean air fan.
