Mark HinshawSEATTLE – January 9, 2015 – Mark L. Hinshaw is joining Seattle Housing Authority to work on Yesler Terrace urban design. He has 35 years of experience in community planning and urban design. He has served as President of the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association and as President of the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. In addition, he has served on the national Board of Directors for the American Institute of Certified Planners. Hinshaw was Principal Urban Designer for City of Bellevue, as well as Director of Urban Design for LMN Architects. He is the author of “True Urbanism: Living in and Near the Center,” (University of Chicago Press, 2007) and “Citistate Seattle: The Making of a Modern Metropolis” (University of Chicago Press, 1999). Hinshaw holds the rare distinction of being a Fellow of both the American Institute of Architects and the American Institute of Certified Planners.

The mission of the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) is to enhance the Seattle community by creating and sustaining decent, safe and affordable living environments that foster stability and self-sufficiency for people with low incomes. SHA provides long-term, low-income rental housing and rental assistance to more than 29,000 people in the City of Seattle.
