New Yesler Community Center provides resources

SEATTLE—February 12, 2005—Mayor Greg Nickels joined the community to mark the opening of the new Yesler Community Center. The grand opening event included facility tours, cultural performances, arts and crafts activities, class demonstrations, and international food.

The Seattle Parks and Recreation’s new center greatly enhances the recreation and education resources available to the Yesler neighborhood. It features a computer lab, fitness room, multi-purpose room and a full size recreational gym.

Many of the activities at the center are free or very affordable. Some of these include after-school programs for kids and teens, morning gym time for preschoolers, and a variety of classes and forums for seniors. The center’s learning center offers a wide range of educational classes, including tutoring, multi-media for teens, and computer basics.

The center is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about the center and its activities and classes, visit the center at 917 E. Yesler Way or call (206) 386-1245.
