The 10th Annual SHA Volunteer Recognition Celebration will be held on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at Center Park Community Building. Two individuals or one group will be honored at the event luncheon. To nominate a neighbor or group, fill out the 2022 Nomination Form for Resident Volunteer Recognition Event by November 11.
Guidance for Selection Process
Each building or community may choose up to two people to receive awards. If you nominate a group, you may choose only one group. Award recipients must live in a Seattle Housing Authority community. You know what matters in your neighborhood and whose work is making a difference. The decision about what works to honor is yours, as is how to select awardees.
Here are some ways communities have selected past award winners:
- The President or other designated community leader nominates their first choice(s).
- At a community meeting, the community council leadership solicits nominations from the floor. Those names are listed on a ballot and all attendees at the meeting vote on the community choice of nominees.
- The Executive Committee or Leadership team picks nominees by consensus. The group(s) that did this in the past eliminated those voting from eligibility for nomination.
- Council leadership solicited nominations from community members and then selected from that group.
- An individual from a community nominates an individual from the same community and submits the nomination directly to the committee (possibly through the community builder).
- In a community without a Duly Elected Resident Council, a community member can host a meeting to solicit nominations from community members and facilitate a process of selecting the top two choices.
- If a community has a volunteer or leadership recognition process already, they can simply extend the nomination to the same leaders they are recognizing.
- DERC nominations will take priority over individual nominations from the same community.
- Where there are more than 2 nominations from an individual community, the earliest received will be awarded.
- Where there are more than 2 nominations from an individual community that arrive at the same time, the selection will be random.
- Please work with your community builder to ensure you have complete contact information for individuals you want to honor.
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- The event committee will let you know about the status of your nomination in the third week of November.
