Senator Murray named NAHRO's Legislator of the Year

Senator Murray (center) with housing leaders. Click here to view larger.SEATTLE — April 8, 2011 — The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has named Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) their legislator of the year for 2011.

According to Seattle Housing Authority's Lisa Wolters, who handles legislative issues for the agency, Senator Murray is recognized across the country for her leadership in low-income housing issues.

"She is always incredibly responsive to concerns from low-income residents, and has been a champion for the needs of homeless vets in particular," said Wolters.

Senator Murray was a keynote speaker at the the NAHRO Legislative Conference which took place in Washington, DC from March 27 – 30.

Murray is the fifth member of Congress to receive this award. She joins legislators Christopher Bond, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters and Olympia Snowe, all of whom are previous awardees. Senator Murray is the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Transportation, HUD and Related Agencies of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
