Summer is almost here and The Seattle Public Library is starting a new summer schedule and launching summer programs for children, teens and adults. Join the Library for Summer of Learning, story times and other activities and programs.
The Library’s new schedule starts on June 20. It will increase hours at larger locations equipped with air conditioning to reliably serve as cooling centers during hot weather and at some other heavily used branches. Some branches will be open fewer hours.
The Library’s current schedule will remain in effect through June 18. The Library will be closed June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday. View the summer schedule to see an update on summer hours.
Twenty-one of the Library’s 27 locations are air-conditioned. You can find a complete list of air-conditioned libraries at spl.org/shelter.
Summer of Learning launches June 24
The Summer of Learning program for kids and families launches June 24. Stop by your closest Library location to pick up a summer action guide, with a theme of “Free to Read.” Find cool books, do activities, track your summer reading and read freely all summer. View summer programs at spl.org/summeroflearning.
Teens and adults can also play Summer Book Bingo: Read books in fun categories, fill in your squares and submit your card by Sept. 3, to be entered in a drawing for prizes. Visit spl.org/bookbingo for more information.
Story Time, adult tutoring and more
Try a new Library program this summer. The Library regularly holds programs such as Story Time in different languages, Play and Learn sessions and adult tutoring. Check spl.org/calendar to see what’s happening at your branch. All Library programs are free and open to the public.
Technology outage reminder
Due to a recent cybersecurity event, some Library services are still unavailable, including Wi-Fi in Library buildings, and public computers and printers. However, all locations are open as scheduled and the Library is still hosting programs and events every day. Check spl.org/update for regular service updates and spl.org/Today for daily schedule updates.
