Juneteenth and a Day of ActionToday is Juneteenth, an important commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States and a day filled with events in Seattle coordinated by King County Equity Now and other organizations. June 12 was a Day of Action, sponsored by Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County. Many SHA staff are attending Juneteenth activities, and SHA closed the afternoon of June 12 for the Day of Action, so that staff could participate. New website designed by and for SHA youthSHAyouth.org is a new website designed by teens to support each other and stay connected during the coronavirus pandemic. NAHRO honors SHA with an Award of Merit for its Digital InitiativeThe National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) honored the Seattle Housing Authority with a 2020 Award of Merit for its Digital Initiative, launched in 2018 to increase the convenience and efficiency of engaging with the agency, and to help close the digital divide for its low-income tenants. SHA receives large donation of masksThanks to the generosity of UnitedHealthcare Community & State, SHA was one of 45 public housing authorities to receive a large shipment of washable cloth masks manufactured by the clothing company Hanes for use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA) coordinated the effort on behalf of housing authorities. CLPHA and UnitedHealthcare Community & State are strong partners in the effort to improve health outcomes for low-income individuals.
