SHA resumes annual reviews for Housing Choice Voucher participants

Feb. 10, 2021

The Seattle Housing Authority is required to conduct a review each year of Housing Choice Voucher participants’ income and household circumstances. This information is used to recalculate the amount of the participant’s voucher assistance, if needed. In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 national emergency, SHA received authorization to suspend annual reviews.

Effective July 2021, SHA will resume conducting annual reviews with all HCV households. In advance of the review, SHA will send participants a letter in the mail informing them about the review process and the date for their review.

HCV participants experiencing a change in income, household members or other household circumstances, must report those changes to SHA within 10 days. Participants may fill out this form or contact their certification specialist. To find a certification specialist’s contact information, visit SHA's Staff Directory, email HCV@seattlehousing.org or call 206.239.1728.

Participants who received a federal Economic Impact Payment, also called a stimulus check, do not need to report it as additional income. SHA is not required to count it as income for purposes of rent calculation. Participants must, however, report unemployment assistance and changes to any other forms of income.

To keep everyone safe during the coronavirus pandemic, SHA staff are serving clients only by phone or email Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except holidays.
