Redevelopment of Lam Bow Apartments to expand housing

The Seattle Housing Authority’s new Lam Bow Apartments will replace two SHA affordable housing buildings previously on the site, one of which was destroyed in a fire and one of which was reaching the end of its useful life. On December 9, Mayor Jenny Durkan announced that the City of Seattle is contributing $3.5 million toward the redevelopment. The new building will add more family-sized apartments with two-plus bedrooms and increase the total number of affordable units on the site. The development will have 80 parking spaces on site and safe, family-oriented outdoor amenities to serve the building’s residents. A double-height common room will act as an anchor between the interior and exterior common spaces while providing a visual connection between the main building entry and the outdoor amenity areas, central playground and common courtyard. The new Lam Bow Apartments will integrate into the neighborhood, with activity areas and access from both Delridge Way SW and 23rd Ave SW. Construction is expected to begin in 2020.
