SHA residents: SHA to conduct safety checks of all units

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, as a precaution the Seattle Housing Authority has limited maintenance visits to units to emergency and urgent issues only. It is now necessary, per Seattle Fire Department and other requirements, for SHA staff to do quick safety checks of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and other equipment in each unit. The safety checks, which will only require a few minutes in each unit in most cases, will begin this month.

All residents will receive three days advance notice of the date and time of the check for their unit, will be provided with information on what public health guidance will be required of them to ensure a safe visit by SHA maintenance staff and will have the option of being at home or not during the visit. At NewHolly and Rainier Vista, annual testing of back flow plumbing devices in units will also be conducted.

SHA is strictly adhering to all public health guidance and directives. Maintenance staff are screened daily, including temperature checks. During the unit visits, staff will wear face coverings, gloves and other protective equipment, minimize touching objects in the residents’ units and will sanitize surfaces they come into contact with before leaving the unit.

Residents must wear a face covering and maintain a minimum distance of six feet from staff and, if possible, windows should be opened to improve the ventilation. Residents are encouraged to stay in a separate room or step outside of the unit while the testing is conducted.

If residents have questions, they can contact their property management staff or call 206.239.1589. Or they can contact their property manager online

SHA thanks residents in advance for their cooperation on these important safety checks to make sure units are hazard-free and equipment is in good working order.
