The Workplace Communication / Job Shadowing Program provides eligible tenants with an opportunity to observe the work of others in a professional work setting while learning about customer service. It’s an opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience – and get paid for it.
The program is made up of two components:
- An ESL class two times a week with a strong focus on customer service language and skills
- Up to 150 hours of job shadowing to be completed over a 12-14 week period
Participants are also provided with SHA case management services and, through a contract with the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County and TRAC Associates, they may receive help with job placement and job retention services.
During the job shadowing, participants will be hired by SHA and paid a wage of $13 an hour. Note, residents will not see their rent go up due to their wages while fully participating in the Workplace Communication/ Job Shadowing Program.
