Kwanzaa is observed each year from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. It is a celebration of African heritage and African American culture. The seven days of Kwanzaa correspond to the holiday’s seven core principles, each with its own special resonance in African American culture.

SHA invited tenants to send in their favorite memories. Here are three submissions we received.

"I can't find a silver lining in the cloud that is 2020, that in any way outweighs the sorrow I feel for the millions of Americans (as well as people around the world) who are suffering from the devastation COVID-19 has wrought. This includes victims of the virus; it also includes their loved ones and friends. It includes everyone who is now isolated, separated from friends and family. One thing does stand out to me, however: without SHA, I would be homeless. I was a life-long working professional, helping people fight cancer, when I contracted glaucoma. I lost a great deal of my vision. I had to take early retirement. There is no way I am able to pay market rent out of my monthly Social Security allotment. So I want to thank you and everyone at Seattle Housing Authority for making it possible for me to continue to have a safe roof over my head, in my 72nd year." – Randy, Seattle Senior Housing Program
